The building of broadband connections is funded from national funds under the Fast Broadband project of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Rural Development Programme for Mainland Finland managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Broadbandinfo.fi brings information on different sources of funding into a single website.
A common objective within the EU is to provide all households with access to a fast connection of 100 megabits or more by 2025. At the moment this target is met in about half of the Finnish households. Comprehensive and fast broadband connections enable more diverse opportunities for companies to run their business and enhance the wellbeing of all residents, including in the form of better services.
Broadband.fi website is maintained by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority and Finnish Agency for Rural Affairs. Together these constitute the Finnish Broadband Competence Office (BCO) tasked with providing advisory services for companies, citizens and public authorities in matters relating to broadband projects.
The Finnish Broadband Competence Office is part of the network launched by the European Commission for sharing good practices in broadband construction and examples of how the opportunities offered by digitalisation have been utilised.
